Our Newcastle operations deliver services to clients from the region north of the Hawkesbury to the Queensland border, including the Hunter Valley and north-west New South Wales. GHD's Newcastle office was established in 1980 and today employs more than 200 people. The breadth of capabilities of our people includes project management, engineering, environment, survey, architecture and planning services, while also having the resources to successfully deliver large-scale, multidisciplinary projects.
The Newcastle office is one of six offices that comprise the Newcastle Operating Centre, which covers the region north of the Hawkesbury to the Queensland border, and north-west New South Wales. GHD's work in Newcastle is best characterised by our involvement in projects including the award-winning Sandgate Rail Grade Separation and the Pacific Dunes championship golf course.

About Coal Services
Having been involved in the coal mining industry in one form or another since the 1920s, Coal Services Pty Limited (CSPL) was created on 1 January 2002 when the Coal Industry Act 2001 was enacted. CSPL and its subsidiary entities were tasked with undertaking the functions formerly performed by the Joint Coal Board (JCB) and the NSW Mines Rescue Board.
Today, CSPL is owned jointly by the NSW Minerals Council and the Construction, Forestry, Mining, and Energy Union (CFMEU) and consists of the following divisions:

- CS Health
- Mines Rescue
- Virtual Reality Training
- Occupational Hygiene Services
- Coal Mines Technical Services
- Regulation and Compliance
- Audit (Order 34 and Order 40)

CSPL’s operations are spread across the regional NSW centres of Newcastle, Singleton, Woonona and Lithgow with the head office in Sydney. CSPL also has an office in Mackay to provide services to the mining community in Far North Queensland.
