Olivia Foundation
The Live for Kids events are organised by the ‘Olivia Foundation’, an organisation committed to raising funds to assist in the provision of world class health care in the Hunter Region, through the purchase of vital medical equipment, and through the support of patients and their families.
The Olivia Foundation was founded by Simon and Gwendalyn Burt, in memory of their daughter Olivia, who passed away in 2001 due to respiratory failure. They are committed to continuing Olivia’s memory and the significant influences her life had on them.
In particular they are focused on doing whatever they can to ensure that other parents and families do not have to suffer the painful experiences they have, and where children are hospitalised, they have the best equipment possible, as well as improving facilities to make their stay easier.
The foundation is managed by an active board of directors, with extensive and diverse professional experiences, in order to administer the foundation, manage risks and grow the organisation.
The funds from this year’s events will be used to purchase medical equipment in the area of respiratory care. Equipment which, quite simply, helps children to breathe. This is an area of significant need, of kids ranging from babies to teenagers, and is growing. This growth is partly driven from the very small babies graduating from the NICU environment, with respiratory issues being a common issue with these children. The board are very excited about being able to support such a critical area, which will make a significant impact on the lives of kids and their parents.
